LLC Setup

What should I apply for after receiving my LLC documents?

I just got my LLC approval in the mail and I'm feeling a bit lost. I know an EIN is next, but what else do I need to file for? I run a small online retail shop (not physical). Specifically, do I need a business license if I work from home? I'm in Ohio if that matters. Any advice would be great.

Ohio here too. You probably need a vendor's license if you're selling tangible goods. That's through the county. Skip the general business license unless your city requires it. Also, check your local zoning for home-based businesses.

Don't forget the operating agreement and a separate bank account. EIN is free on IRS site. Avoid the paid services.

An EIN is the big one. After that, it really depends on your city. Some places want a home occupation permit. Call your city clerk, they're usually helpful. And yes, do not pay for an EIN.

Ohio is weird. You might need a seller's permit (vendor's license) even if you're online. i'd start with the Ohio Business Gateway site. It walks you through the steps based on your industry. Saved me a ton of confusion.

TacoTuesday22 is spot on about the bank account. Also, check if your county requires a registration for your business name, even though the LLC protects it. Some do, some don't

Oh, and if you're hiring, workers comp. But you're not hiring, probably. Don't overthink it. EIN, vendor's license, separate bank account. Done.

Thanks. The vendor's license thing is new to me. I'll look into the county website. And yeah, already got the separate bank account set up.

One more thing: if you're sipping, check if you need a resale certificate for buying inventory. That's through the state too. But honestly, the Ohio Business Gateway should cover it. Don't pay for a service that just fills out forms unless you're really stuck.
