Filed the Articles of Organization with the state about 10 days back. Got the approval email from the Secretary of State yesterday, which is great and all. But my bank needs the stamped certificate and EIN letter before they'll open a business checking account. I've checked my inbox and spam folder and I've got bupkis. Paid the expedited fee and everything. Is this normal or do I need to start making phone calls?
My Boston LLC was approved, but I haven't received my bank documents
10 days is nothing, honestly. I filed mine back in August and it was almost 3 weeks before the physical mail showed up. The state site was updated before I could even log in.
The state doesn't usually email you the stamped certificate. You log into the Secretary of State portal and print the approved articles yourself. Or wait for the mail.
So I don't need to call the state then? I'm mostly worried about the EIN letter since I did the online application and didn't get an immediate one issued.
For the EIN, if you got it online, you only get a digital copy right away if you qualified. Otherwise it's mailed. IRS says allow 4-6 weeks for the CP 575 letter to show up tbh.
Banks usually just want the EIN number written somewhere and the certificate of good standing. Call your bank first before you sit around waiting.
Yeah some banks will take the state portal printout. Others are weird about it. Which bank are you trying to use?
Its a smaller local credit union. They gave me a checklist and said the stamped articles and the EIN letter both need to be presented. No exceptions.
Ah, the local credit union experience. I once had to wait 6 weeks for a CP 575 letter for an LLC. Spent two hours on hold with the IRS just to confirm it was on the way.
That seems excessive. My credit union accepted my EIN on the phone. They wrote the number down on the application and that was that. Maybe ask for a manager?
You can call the IRS and ask them to fax the letter to you. I know, it's 2024, but they still do it. Might take a few days but it's faster than mail.
I might try the fax thing. I didn't know that was an option. And I'll print the articles from the portal tonight, see if the credit union will look at it ngl.
Fax in 2024 is wild. But if it works, who cares. Good luck.
Hold onto your hat, you might get the letter before the next bank appointment anyway.
Government paperwork moves at the speed of smell. Bank paperwork is slightly faster. Emphasis on slightly.
Let us know how it goes. This is the kind of thing that seems huge until it's done, then you forget it ever happened.
