I run a small e-commerce supply company out of San Antonio. Most of my customers are in Austin and Houston. I want a business bank account that doesn't penalize me for cash deposits from those cities. Any suggestions on which Texas banks or credit unions are friendly to multi-city businesses?

RiverWalkRec

Are you depositing cash in those cities or just receiving checks? That changes the answer.

Frost has branches in all three cities. I have a small business account with them and haven't had issues with deposits from out-of-town customers. Their business checking has a monthly fee but it's waivable.

Credit unions are usually better for this. RBFCU has locations in San Antonio, Austin, and Houston. I'd check their business accounts.

What's your monthly deposit volume? If it's mostly digital payments, a lot of online banks won't care where your customers are.

RiverWalkRec

Online banks often don't take cash at all though. If you're dealing with cash from customers in Austin and and Houston, you need a physical branch network.

I've used Chase for a multi-city business. Branches everywhere, but they can be fee-heavy. Worth comparing to a locaal credit union first.

One thing to watch: some banks charge for deposits made at branches outside your home region. Ask specifically about that before you commit.

Also check if you need need a registered agent or foreign qualification in Austin/Houston. If you have a physical presence there, that's a separate legal issue from banking.

Do you actually have employees or offices in Austin and Houston, or is it just customers? That matters for both banking and taxes.

TortillaTrail

No offices or employees there, just customers. Mostly digital payments but some cash from wholesale buyeRs who pick up locally.

If it's mostly digital, you might not need branches in those cities at all. A solid Texas-based bank with good online tools could work. Just make sure cash deposits are easy in San Antonio.

RiverWalkRec

I'd second RBFCU. They've been reasonable for small business stuff. But their business account options are limited compared to a full bank.

Frost or Broadway Bank if you want local. Broadway is San Antonio-based but has some Austin presence. Houston less so.

Honestly, call a few and ask directly about out-of-area cash deposits. Fee schedules vary a lot and the websites don't always spell it out.
