A freelance web developer's review of Inc Authority

So I used Inc Authority to set up my LLC last year (I'm a freelance web dev, mostly solo). Wanted to share my experience since I saw a few people asking about them. Short version: it was free, but the upsells are relentless. They filed my articles, got my EIN, and I paid nothing for the base package. But then I got calls about registered agent service, compliance packages, website builders... it felt like a timeshare pitch. Curious if others had the same experience or if I just got a pushy rep.

The free filing is legit but they will hound you. I set up an LLC through them in 2021 and still get emails about their registered agent service. I just ignore them. For a freelancer with no physical office, its fine.

Why not just file directly with your state? I did mine for $50 and it took 20 minutes. No calls, no upsells. Inc Authority is a lead gen machine.

I used them too. The EIN part was helpful because I was was clueless, but looking back I could've done it myself. Live and learn.

GrumpyOwl, yeah I get that now. At thd time I was trying to just get it done quickly while juggling client work. The state site confused me with the registered agent requirements, so I went with them. Next time I'll just DIY.

The calls are the worst part. I told them I wasn't interested three times and they kept transferring me to a 'senior specialist.' Felt like a sales gauntlet.

Free is free. Just don't answer your phone for a month and you're golden. 😂

TunaCasserole

MildlyAmused that's basically my strategy. But their compliance reminders are actually kind of useful—I forgot about my annual report last year and they sent a heads up. So it's a trade-off.

GrumpyOwl

A heads up for something your state also reminds you about. Worth the spam? Debatable.

One thing I'll say: their registered agent service is overpriced. I switched to a cheaper one after the first year and it was a hassle to get Inc Authority to release the agent. Just be aware if you sign up for that.
