I'm sourcing designer clothes overseas now

I run a small online boutique and recently switched to sourcing designer clothes overseas to improve margins. The prices from overseas suppliers are much lower, but I'm dealing with longer lead times and some quality inconsistencies. I'm trying to figure out how to manage this without losing customers. Has anyone else made this transition?

What countries are you sourcing from? That changes everything.

I tried overseas sourcing for a while. The lead times killed me. Customers expect things in a few days now.

Quality inconsistencies are the biggest issue. You need a solid QC process or you'll get return that eat your margins. Have you considered hiring a third-party inspector?

Mainly Vietnam, and Turkey right now. I looked into third-party inspection but it adds cost. Maybe worth it for larger orders.

How do you handle sizes? I've found that Asian sizing runs small, so I always size up. But then customers complain.

Are you buying ready-made stock or doing custom production? There's a big difference.

I'd say start with small test orders and build relationships slowly. Don't go all in on one supplier

Also check the fabric quality carefully. Photos can be misleading. Ask for swatches before committing.

Mostly ready-made stock for now. Swatches are a good idea – I'll ask for those next time.

What about customs and duties? That can surprise you.

sasha_99

I've heard Turkey can be hit or miss. Vietnam seems more consistent for basics.

One more thing: make sure you have a contract that covers defects and returns. Without that, you're stuck with bad stock
