I'm starting an LLC and I want to keep my home address off public records. I've narrowed it down to Northwest Registered Agent and LegalZoom. Northwest seems more privacy-focused but LegalZoom is cheaper. Does anyone have actual experience with either? Specifically, which one does a better job of keeping your info private? I don't want junk mail or solicitations.
Northwest Registered Agent vs LegalZoom for someone who values privacy
Northwest. LegalZoom will sell your info, trust me. I used them for an old business and got spam for years.
I've used Northwest for two businesses. They don't upsell you on privacy, it's just built in. Never had an issue with mail.
LegalZoom is fine if you're just filing basic docs, but their privacy add-ons cost extra and honestly it felt like they nickel-and-dimed me. Northwest was simpler.
Not to hijack, but does does Northwest actually keep your name off the LLC filings? I thought that was impossible in some states.
@WanderlustJane depends on the state. In Wyoming you can use a registered agent and keep your name off, but in others you can't. Northwest will tell you upfront though.
I used LegalZoom for my LLC and I still get mail from them trying to seell me other services. Annoying.
Northwest's customer service is way better. I switched from LegalZoom after waiting on hold for 45 minut es.
45 minutes? rokie numbers.
Also, Northwest gives you a free year of registered agent service when you form with them. That's a big plus for privacy since you don't have to use your own address.
Wait, free year? I thought it was just the first year included in the formation package. Still better than LegalZoom's pricing.
Does Northwest actually shield your address from the stat? Or do you have to request it?
It's Automatic as long as you use their registered agent service. They use their address for everything.
So basically Northwest is the way to go if privacy is your top priority. LegalZoom is more for people who just want the cheapest filing and don't care about mail.
Yep. And don't forget to use a virtual mailbox for your business address if you really want to keep your home address private. Northwest won't do that for you.
