How easy is it to find a home address in public LLC records?

I run a small online store and formed an LLC last year. A customer who got a refund dispute started digging around and found my home address through the state's business search. I had no idea that was public. Is there a way to keep my home address off the LLC filings? I don't have a separate office.

Depends on the state. Some let you use a registered agent's address as the public address. Others don't.

I went through this in Florida. Used a registered agent service and it worked for the annual report, but the original articles still had my address. So the cat was already out of the bag for anyone who checked before.

Wait, so the agent's address goes on file and your home address stays private? I thought you still had to list a principal address.

In many states the principal address can be a PO box or the agent's office as long as you can receive mail there. But it varies. Check your state's forms or ask a CPA.

Thanks. I'm in Texas, if that helps. I'll look into whether a registered agent service accepts mail for the principal address.

Not to be that guy, but this is all findable in public records regardless if you use an agent. Property tax records, voter rolls, etc. LLC filings are just one door.

True, but you don't have to make it easier for them. An LLC filing is a direct search, not a chain of records.

Honestly the fees for a registered agent are small compared to dealing with someone showing up. I pay $50/year and sleep better.
