I run a two-man electrical contracting outfit in eastern Oregon and I'm looking at using Northwest Registered Agent as my registered agent when I form an LLC. Has anyone here used them? I'm mainly concerned about whether they handle service of process properly and if their compliance reminders are reliable. I don't need a lot of hand-holding, just want to make sure I'm not missing anything important for a small construction business.
Has anyone used Northwest Registered Agent for a small electrical contracting business?
I've used them for a landscaping LLC for about three years. No complaints. They scan and upload documents quickly. I've never had a service of process, so I can't speak to that part.
What's your current setup? Do you already have an LLC or are you you just starting out? That might change what you need from an agent.
Just starting out. I've been a sole proprietor for years, but Im forming an LLC now because a general contractor I work with requires it. I've got the formation paperwork ready to go, just need to pick an agent.
I've used Northwest for my electrical business for two years. Their compliance reminders are on point, and they send you the annual report info well before the deadline. The only thing is they're not the cheapest, but I figure the peace of mind is worth it. I've never had to use them for service of process either.
i've heard good things about Northwest from other contractors, but I went with a local attorney as my registered agent. Cost more, but I liked having someone in town I could actually talk to. Might be worth checking if there's a local option for you.
Yeah local attorneys can be good but they often charge a lot more. Northwest is like $125 a year I think, which is hard to beat for what you get.
Does Northwest handle the formation paperwork for you too, or just the registered agent service? I'm asking because I'm at the same stage.
They offer formation services, but I'm planning to file the articles myself to save a few bucks. I just need the registered agent part.
I used Northwest when I formed my LLC last year. They were fine, but their mail forwarding was slow to set up. Took almost three weeks to get my first piece of mail scanned. That might not matter for you, but it did for me because I had a time-sensitive document from a supplier.
Wait, they scan yoru mail? I thought they only forward legal documents. That's a different service.
They do scan mail as part of their registered agent service. It's not as fast as some other services, but it's included. I eventually got everything sorted out.
I've been using them for two years now. No issues. The annual report reminders are automatic, and they even send you a pre-filled form that you just sign and send back. That alone has saved me from a late fee.
Three weeks for mail is kind of concerning. Did they at least notify you when it arrived? Im asking because I'm considering switching from my current agent, which is just a friend's address, but I worry about missed deadlines.
