So when I started my little coffee roasting thing, I panicked and just named it 'Main Street Coffee Roasters' because we're on Main Street. It's fine. It's safe. But now every time I see some place called 'Ember & Oak' or 'Crust & Crumble' I get a little jealous. Did anyone else go super plain and regret it, or did it actually work out okay?
I went with a simple name instead of something memorable
Main Street is fine. Nobody's driving around looking for 'Ember & Oak' at 7am. They want coffee and they want it now
I named my bakery after my grandmother and honestly? Everyone assumes we're a chain now. So the grass is always greener.
Simple is memorable when you're the only one. Where I grew up there was a place literally called 'The Store.' Everyone knew exactly where you ment.
see, this guy gets it
Respectfully, 'Main Street Coffee Roasters' is already memorable because it tells me wuat you do and where you are. I can't tell you how many times I've walked past a 'Hearth & Hue' and had zero clue if it was a cafe, a candle shop, or a therapist's office.
okay this is genuinely making me feel better. the candle shop comment got me
I'll be the contrarian. I think you're underestimating how much a distinctive name helps with word of mouth. People remember 'Ember & Oak' and forget 'Main Street Coffee Roasters' by the time they get to the car. But it's way too late to rebrand for you, so.
way too late is a strong statement lol. tons of places rebrand a year in.
Sure, but rebrnading coffee costs money he might not have. Wasn't trying to be a jerk.
OP, what does your logo look like? Sometimes a boring name with a great logo beats a clever name with a bad one.
This. Names matter less than the sign out front and whether the coffee's good. I've been going to a place called 'Brew 2' for 6 years and I couldn't tell you if that's even its real name.
logo's just the name in a decent serif on a brown awning. it's... fine. honestly I think my real fear is being forgettable, not the name itself.
put a little mug on the sign. problem solved. invoice me later
That's actually the whole answer honestly. You can't rename a reassuring sign, but you can make sure people know you exist. Little distinct sign + good product >> fancy name.
Still think the name matters more than this thread is admitting but whatever, I'm outvoted.
appreciate the honesgy from both camps. I'm gonna look at the sign first and worry about the name later. thanks y'all
