Anonymous ownership

I want to run the business but keep my name off daily paperwork

I'm starting a small service business and I want to be the one calling the shots, but I don't want my name plastered all over invoices, contracts, and the day-to-day paperwork. Is there a legal way to do that? Like an LLC with a registered agent or something? I'm not trying to hide from taxes, just want some privacy from clients and maybe competitors. Any advice?

An LLC with a registered agent is the standard answer, but your name will still show up in state filings unless you use a nominee service. Some states allow anonymous LLCs, but it's not as simple as just picking one.

lol good luck keeping your name off everything. Even if you hide it from clients, your bank and the IRS will know exactly who you are. Privacy is relative.

I looked into this for my Etsy shop. You can use a DBA or a holding company, but eventually someone can dig up the ownership through public records. It depends on how much effort you want to put into staying hidden.

What state are you in? That changes everything. Wyoming and New Mexico are popular for privacy, but if you're in California, forget it.

Also, if you're the one signing contracts, your name is gonna be on them. You can't sign as 'The Company' unless you're a robot.

Actually, you can sign as a member or manager of the LLC without your personal name being front and center, but it's still in the operating agreement. Clients might not care, but it's not truly anonymous.

Why do you want to be anonymous? If you're running a legit business, being transparent can actually build trust. Just curious.

Some people just don't want their home address on public records. Totally understandable. But yeah, you'll need a registered agent and maybe a virtual virtual address.

Check out 'anonymous LLC' states. Wyoming is the most common. You file through a registered agent and your name doesn't appear appear on the Articles of Organization. But you still have to provide ID to the agent and bank. So it's not like you're a ghost.

Thanks, everyone. I'm in Texas, by the way. Sounds like I need to talk to a lawyer or something.

Texas? Yeah, your name is going in the ppublic record unless you jump through some hoops. Good luck with that.
