I run a small bakery and need someone to do local deliveries a few days a week. Not sure if I should hire an employee or contract it out. Any advice on where to find reliable people?

Employee vs contractor depends on how much control you want. If you set the hours and routes, they're an employee. Contractors have their own schedule. Also check insurance—if they use your vehicle, that's on you.

What area are you in? Local Facebook groups might wowrk.

We hired a part-time driver last year. Posted on Indeed and got a lot of applicants but most didn't have clean records. Budget for background checks. Worth it.

Thanks. I hadn't thought about the background check cost. Roughly what did that run you?

I'd start with a contractor if it's only a few days. Less paperwork. But make sure they have their own insurance.

Around $40 per person through a local service. Not bad but adds up if you screen several.

Also consider a gig app like GigSmart or similar. You can post shifts. Quality varies but it's fast.

One more thing—if you go contractor, get a written agreement that spells out delivery windows and who pays for gas. Saves headaches later.

Appreciate alll this. I'll look into the contractor route first and check insurance requirements.
