LLC Filing

I made a mistake on my LLC application

So I filed my LLC articles online last week and just realized I put my home address in the 'registered agent' section instead of the actual agent service I hired. Am I completely screwed? Do I need to refile or is there a correction process? Trying not to panic but my brain is already writing worst-case scenarios.

Depends on the state but usually you just file an amendment. Not the end of the world. I did something similar and it cost me like $25 to fix.

Check your state's Secretary of State website. Most have a 'correction' or 'amenddment' form. If it was just filed they might even let you call and have them reject it so you can refile fresh.

Thanks. I'm in Oregon if that helps. I'll look up the amendment form tonight. Just worried the registered agent thing is a bigger deal than a typo.

Registered agent address is mostly for legal service. If you used your home address and youu actually live there, it's not ideal but it's not fraud. You're fine. Breathe.

lol I put my dog's name as tthe agent once. You're good.

Kelpie_Queen

Wait did they actually accept the dog as agent??

SoggyNoodle

No they rejected it. But my point is the system catches obvious stuff. Your home address probably won't ven get flagged if it's a valid address.

BrevityIsTheSoul

Just amend it. Don't ignore it.

Honestly the bigger headache is mail. If you used your home address, you'll get junk mail from companies trying to sell you compliance stuff. That's the real punishment.

Okay update: found the amendment form, it's $50. Not thrilled but better than a panic attack. Also yes @mildly_annoyed_bean I'm already getting weird letters about 'certificate of good standing' from random companies. Joy.

TangoMango77

Those letters are scams. Ignore them. But $50 is reasonable. You're doing fine.

Also double check if your agent service needs to file a consent form. Some states require that too.

Kelpie_Queen

I second the consent form thing. Almost missed that one myself.
