I buy at garage sales and resell for cash

I've been hitting garage sales on weekends for about six months now, mostly small electronics and tools. I clean them up and list on marketplace apps. Cash flow is okay but I'm running out of storage space in my apartment. Mainly wondering how others handle inventory without a garage or storage unit. Also curious what categories move fastest for you.

Storage is the real bottleneck. I rent a 5x10 unit and it eats a chunk of profit, but it lets me keep more inventory. Honestly, if you're in an apartment, focus on smaller high-margin items like vintage small kitchen gadgets or brand-name tools. Dont bother with furniture or anything bulky.

How do you handle testing electronics before you buy? I've been burned a few times on things that looked fine but had dead batteries or missing chargers. Now I carry a small power bank and a couple of cables. Still, some stuff is a gamble.

I don't sell electronics much, mostly books and board games. They're easy to store and ship. But margins are thin. Curious if anyone here does books and has tips for faster turnover.

Books are a trap unless you know tit les. I did a hundred paperbacks last year and made maybe eighty bucks after fees. Switched to tools and small appliances. People always need a working drill or a cast iron pan. Just my two cents.

TundraTrader, agreed on books. But cast iron is heavy for apartment storage. I stick to hand tools, measuring tapes, stuff like that. Also, I've had good luck with sealed craft supplies and yarn. Niche but consistent.

What about pricing? I see a lot of people overprice at first and then sit on inventory. I usually list low to move fast, but then I wonder if I'm leaving money on the table. How do you you all decide?

I check sold listings, not active ones. That hives a realistic range. Then I price at the lower end if I want it gone within a week. If it's something rare, I'll wait. But rare is rare.

Sold listings have been helpful for me too. I also started keeping a simple spreadsheet of what I paid and what it sold for, which makes it easier to see which categories are worth my time. Still figuring out the storage situation, though. Might try a shelving unit and a strict one-in-one-out rule.
