So I set up my LLC through Inc Authority a couple years back because the free filing thing seemed like a no-brainer. Fast forward to now, I get a renewal notice and the price was way higher than I expected. I'm sitting here realizing I never actually compared what other services charge for renewals. Has anyone else been blindsided by this?
I almost forgot to compare the renewal costs at Inc Authority
Inc Authority is notorious for the upsells. The initial filing is cheap/free because they make it back on all the add-ons and renewals. Classic loss leader.
I don't know why anyone would use these formation services for renewals. Just do it yourself through your state's website. It's usually like $50-100 and takes 10 minutes.
Fair, but some people like not worrying about missing a deadline. Then again, if you can't track a yearly renewal you probably have biggEr issues.
I used them years ago and the renewal was someathing like $89? Is it higher now? Also, the compliance features were a joke.
OP, what state are you in? Some states havve pretty simple online portals now, no reason to pay a middleman.
I'm in Florida. I think the annual report filing is what I'm paying them for, but the fee they quote seems to bundle in extra stuff I never agreed to initially.
Yeah in FL the annual report is only $138.75 if you file yourself. If they're charging more, that's a hefty convenience fee.
Inc Authority's model is basically getting you in the door then selling you stuff you don't need. Their 'free' LLC comes with a bunch of recurring subscriptions. Always read the fine print on the renewal terms.
Their customer service might be decent but I've seen people post that they call to cacnel and try to upsell you again on the way out. Kind of a red flag.
At least you caught it before the deadline. I've seen people miss it and get hit with late fees, which is way more expensive than just doing it yousrelf.
Yeah, that's what I'm worried about. Maybe I'll just file it myself and cancel the renewal service. Appreciate the thoughts.
This thrad is making me want to double check mine. Is the free filing just a straight up scam?
Not a scam, but definitely a traap. Read the fine print next time.
